Central European Starter Kit 2.0

Everything you need to use Central European languages in all your Windows programs.
Central European Starter Kit contains everything you need to use Central European languages in all your Windows applications: four TrueType fonts and our Central European Keyboard utility. It supports three popular Central European character sets: Unicode, Windows Central European (Code Page 1250) and ISO 8859-2. Each of these contains the characters needed for English, German, Albanian, Croatian, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian, Slovak, and Slovenian, as well as several typographical symbols.

Central European Fonts

Central European Starter Kit includes four TrueType fonts. For each typeface shown below, one font is provided for Unicode and Windows Central European (Code Page 1250), and another is provided for ISO 8859-2.

The fonts are compatible with all 16-bit and 32-bit Windows applications. Under Windows 95, 98, and NT, screen appearance has been carefully optimized for common point sizes; here is a sample display at 12 point:

Central European Keyboard

Central European Keyboard gives you an easy way to type Central European languages. You can use it with the fonts we have provided (Couriere and Timesse), as well as any other Central European fonts which use a standard character set. While Central European Keyboard is running you can switch between keyboard layouts for English, German, Albanian, Croatian, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian, Slovak, and Slovenian. You can freely mix these languages in the same document, or even on the same line of text.

Standard and QWERTY keyboard layouts are provided for each of these languages, and you can easily customize them using a visual drag-and-drop procedure. (QWERTY layouts are convenient for those accustomed to typing English, as Standard Central European layouts swap the Y and Z keys.) A visual map of your current keyboard layout is always available on screen for easy reference.

Summary of Features/Benefits

  • Central European TrueType fonts. Four Central European TrueType fonts are included.
  • Input Language Marking. Under Windows 95, 98, Me, NT 4.0, and 2000, the correct input language is associated with each keyboard layout. So when you select a Czech layout, for example, your programs will know you are typing Czech. Programs such as Word 97/2000/XP use your input language to determine how to sort, format dates, and select the proper spell check dictionary.
  • Windows NT/2000 Compatibility. Fully compatible with Word 97/2000/XP and other Unicode applications under Windows NT 4.0 and 2000.
  • Unicode Support. Font and keyboard support are provided for the Central European portion of Unicode.
  • Windows and Internet Character Sets. Font and keyboard support are also provided for both Windows Central European (Code Page 1250) and ISO 8859-2.
  • Application Notes. An extensive help system is included with notes on using Central European languages in e-mail programs, Web browsers, and other popular applications.
  • 21 pre-defined keyboard layouts. These include U.K., U.S., Extended U.S. (includes typographical symbols), and both standard and QWERTY layouts for each of these languages: German, Albanian, Croatian, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian, Slovak, and Slovenian.
  • Create custom layouts. Any of the keyboard layouts can be easily customized using a visual drag-and-drop procedure.
  • Switch keyboard layouts. Using a menu or a hot key, you can switch keyboard layouts quickly and easily.
  • Hot keys. You can define hot keys to select your favorite keyboard layouts. This way you won't need to leave your application window or even take your fingers off the keyboard to switch layouts.
  • Keyboard display. The window displays a map of your current keyboard layout. It can be resized, kept on top of other windows, and shrunk to an icon (the icon indicates which layout is active).
  • Taskbar status area. Under Windows 95, 98, Me, NT 4.0, or 2000, Central European Keyboard keeps its icon in the Taskbar status area (near the clock). When you click the icon, a menu pops up that lets you change keyboard layouts.
  • International versions of Windows. Central European Starter Kit works well with American, European, and Middle Eastern editions of Windows.
