Cyrillic Starter Kit 5.01

Everything you need to use Cyrillic in all your Windows programs.
Cyrillic Starter Kit contains everything you need to begin using Cyrillic in all your Windows applications: six Cyrillic TrueType fonts and the latest version of our popular Cyrillic Keyboard utility. It supports three popular Cyrillic character sets: Unicode, Windows Cyrillic (Code Page 1251) and Internet Cyrillic (KOI8). Each of these contains the characters needed for English and all modern Slavic languages that use a Cyrillic alphabet, as well as several typographical symbols.

Cyrillic Fonts

Cyrillic Starter Kit includes six Cyrillic TrueType fonts. For each typeface shown below, one font is provided for Unicode and Windows Cyrillic (Code Page 1251), and another is provided for Internet Cyrillic (KOI8).

True bold and italic versions of Timesse may also be installed after purchase:

The fonts may be used in any Windows program. On-screen appearance has been carefully optimized for common point sizes; here is a sample display at 12 point:

Cyrillic Keyboard

Cyrillic Keyboard gives you an easy way to type all the characters in Cyrillic fonts. You can use it with the fonts we have provided (Couriere and Timesse), as well as any other Cyrillic fonts which use a standard character set. While Cyrillic Keyboard is running you can switch between keyboard layouts for English, Russian, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Serbian, and Ukrainian. You can freely mix these languages in the same document, or even on the same line of text.

Standard and phonetic (also called mnemonic or transliterated) keyboard layouts are provided, and you can easily customize them using a visual drag-and-drop procedure. A visual map of your current keyboard layout is always available on screen for easy reference.

Summary of Features/Benefits

  • Cyrillic TrueType fonts. Six Cyrillic TrueType fonts are included.
  • Input Language Marking. The correct input language is associated with each keyboard layout, so your programs always know which language you are typing. Programs such as Word 97/2000/XP use the input language for certain language-dependent features such as sorting, formatting dates, and selecting the proper spell check dictionary.
  • Windows XP Compatibility. Fully compatible with Windows 95, 98, Me, NT 4, 2000, and XP.
  • Unicode Support. Font and keyboard support are provided for the Cyrillic portion of Unicode. Four Unicode fonts are included, and additional ones are available from a variety of sources.
  • Internet Cyrillic (KOI8). Font and keyboard support are also provided for Windows Cyrillic (Code Page 1251) and Internet Cyrillic (KOI8).
  • Application Notes. An extensive help system is included with notes on using Cyrillic in popular e-mail programs, Web browsers, and other applications.
  • 17 pre-defined keyboard layouts. These include English (U.K., U.S., and Extended U.S.), Russian (BTC, Cherry, Custom, Phonetic, Standard, Student, Typewriter, and Windows), Belarusian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Serbian, and Ukrainian (Phonetic and Standard).
  • Create custom layouts. Any of the keyboard layouts can be easily customized using a visual drag-and-drop procedure.
  • Four symbols per key. Each key on your keyboard can be used to type up to four different symbols (letters, punctuation marks, etc.).
  • Switch keyboard layouts. Using a menu or a hot key, you can switch keyboard layouts quickly and easily.
  • Hot keys. You can define hot keys to select your favorite keyboard layouts. This way you won't need to leave your application window or even take your fingers off the keyboard to switch layouts.
  • Keyboard display. The window displays a map of your current keyboard layout. It can be resized, kept on top of other windows, and shrunk to an icon (the icon indicates which layout is active).
  • System Tray. Cyrillic Keyboard keeps its icon in the System Tray (the recessed portion of your Taskbar, near the clock). When you click the icon, a menu pops up that lets you change keyboard layouts.
  • International versions of Windows. Cyrillic Starter Kit works well with American, European, and Middle Eastern editions of Windows.
